![]() ![]() ![]() The concept is interesting and there's certainly parts where the story is engaging but it's not as well brought together as one would hope. Also the film commits the crime of continuing after the story ends, dragging on an extra 15 mins or so that could easily have been cut from the end. This confusion remains at the end of the film. The audience attention is lost because of this lack of focus and instead you are left a bit confused about why certain scenes happened instead of gripped throughout. However there were also parts where it was badly executed and parts where the story becomes convoluted without any real reason. South Korea in 1986 under the military dictatorship: Two rural cops and a special detective from the capital investigate a series of brutal. Playing with the time and memory lapses of Byung-soo and how it relates to trying to catch his daughter's bf is a good idea and I think there are parts where it was very well executed. The reason for this I believe is a lack of focused writing. Memories of a Murderer: The Nilsen Tapes 2021 15 1h 25m Biographical Documentaries Serial killer Dennis Nilsen narrates his life and horrific crimes via a series of chilling audiotapes recorded from his jail cell. The film details the life and murders of Scottish serial killer Dennis Nilsen, first-hand through audiotapes which were recorded from his jail cell. I still like my tragic ending but this blew my mind haha.Honestly the journey and structure of this film is great at the start but becomes a bit lost and over convoluted further into the story. Memories of a Murderer: The Nilsen Tapes is a British documentary film created for Netflix and directed by Michael Harte. As one of Britain’s most notorious serial killers, Nilsen is. I talked to a friend recently who interpreted it differently and said that Kim Byeong-soo is already dead in the end (hence walking through the tunnel and seeing Min Tae-joo). Netflix’s latest documentary, Memories of a Murderer: The Nilsen Tapes, follows the true and horrific story of Dennis Nilsen. ![]() The film too therefore end on a similar note. Another popular theory is that it really was all in Kim’s head. The movie is based on a real life unsolved case Hwaseong serial murders which took place between 19 in Korea. My interpretation is that all the events really happened and that he successfully killed Min Tae-joo, but he cannot remember what happened and is doomed to live with unresolved pain for the rest of his time. However, I think the ending makes Kim Byeong-soo more of a tragic hero. I do think the movie could have ended after the final fight scene when everyone was on the floor. Summary: Memories of Murder tells the harrowing true story of the hunt for a sadistic serial rapist and murderer terrorizing a small province in 1980s South Korea. ![]() The film kept me guessing and I have mixed feelings about the ending, but I like it for the most part. At the end, Kim Byeong-soo tells himself not to trust his memory, and that Min Tae-joo is still alive. I've read some reviews that call the film predictable and say that the ending was unsatisfactory and confusing. He acted well in almost all the scenes, but his explanation scene could have been much more convincing. (Edit: After reading a comment on this blog post though, I see this could be an interpretation implying that Min and Kim are the same person.) Min also didn't have a good reason for being the antagonist his explanation seemed very cliche and boring. I thought the latter was unnecessary (laughable, even) and there just for shock value. Some parts that seemed a bit unnecessary include the drawn-out poetry lesson scenes and the scene where Min detaches a small section of his head. The lack of closure in the investigation becomes an occasion for the film to explore deeper failures of historical memory. ![]()
